That is a fine set up, Rick. Unfortunately, in this country up here, the wind blows so much and rocks the truck it is like shooting a moving target from a moving platform. Now if you take out the springs and set the truck on the axles and install solid iron wheels, might have something.

Did you take the tailgate hinge cable off or did the muzzleblast from that rifle remove it?

Read ya Dan...but it was blowing here this day also! It's MARCH....and it'll blow like Ole Billy Hell till it turns VERY HOT and then one could drop a feather from 20' and it would hit the toes! I've just learned to wait until the lull and go with that! I know all about your winds! I trained at Fort Carson shooting with my segment of the AMU there for 4 years! I've got a good bench

but I can't control the Shiloh off it nearly as well as using the tailgate! As for a 'null point'....well...that's a joke and it doesn't make any difference whether I'm on the bench or off sticks....it's the same! However.....when shooting off the rolled up shooting mat which I have a 2" piece of galvanized pipe in the middle to keep it from collapsing.....I rest my forward hand atop the mat with the forearm in my hand pulling rearward with the buttplate pulled strongly back into my shoulder and I can tell all the difference betwixt accuracy in this manner versus the other two positions!

I like your bench Rick.
It's like mine on the top but in the winter with snow on the ground I opted to use sled rails and made the seat adjustable for the little once.

What kind of wheels do you have on your bench? I have one very similar but can't keep air in the tires. Have used slime on the last set but in a couple months they are flat as can be. Hate to go to a wheel/tire like a Brush Hog would use.

Dan take the valvecore out, make sure the stem is pointing down , and stick the straw on a can of quick foam in there and let er rip.
I'm going to try Mr. Mulherns shooting bench/tailgate method a little later today, but I'm thinking the tailgates on my pickups have had to many haybales, fencepost and crystalix barrels flappin around on them over the years, they're not quite as level and pretty as the one pictured above is...

Go to your local Tractor Supply store and these are solid rubber! These won't go flat or wear out anytime soon!!
