Hartford front sight

RE: Hartford front sight
Yup that's the kind of stories I like to hear. I use wads punched out of milk cartons they run at .02" and then I have a stack of tablet backing that is .026" and a bunch cheap pizza boxes at .016". Gotta get with the testing on the tab backing and pizza box cardboard see if its any better. Sharps allways called for a thin jute wad or pasteboard wad, just don't know how they compare. Those wads you use at .458" dia or what dia? I liked ordering a gun on the rd barrel run ,cause you get it in 6 months or so. Somewhere down the line though I'd like a #2 Creedmoor with a pewter tip, double set triggers, Oh My God wood! (kinda like the #3 at Shiloh hanging on the wall and featured in the catalog )and chambered Orville/original style in 45-2.4" cause that was the final evolution of the Sharps target cartridge( won't mention the availibility factor of decent priced Starline brass). Yep and a few others, can't really think of a better epitath than "Well he really liked nice Shilohs with tight chambers" makes yah laugh don't it? gotta get back to patching and seating my bullets for the Montana 1000yd in July. bobw

strangest things jump out at ya when yer not lookin huh? kinda like blowin wind down the barrel from the muzzle...have done so for a looooong time with the muzzle loaders but never dawned on me thick noggin to do so with a breech loader...always did my blowin with a blowtube and not so much of that either as i have never gotten the results i expected from it.

thanks for the hint and ill keep readin till somethin else jumps my way.

Bigted try it sometime, it really works well! I even did this with my 18 lbs Sharps Rifle! I had 27 rounds loaded of different varieties of crap that didn't shoot worth a hoot to 700 yards so I shot all of them at a 100 yards! Keep in mind this rifle has a 35" barrel, all we're in a fist size group! I would shoot, blow 3 breaths down the barrel and fire again! I use this method for all my hunting guns!

You actually get more moisture down the barrel when you blow directly down the muzzle.
Just look at the blow tube while you blow through it and see the moisture droplets stay behind.

The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

I was really amazed yesterday afternoon, when I got back to the house and cleaned the 44 it had been about an hour since the last shot was fired. I blew about 4 breaths down the muzzle and 3 patches later was still coming out damp. The first dry patch thru came out almost dripping.

Stephen.

Now that you have had this front sight for a spell, how are you getting along with it?
If possible I would like to see it mounted on your rifle.
My eyes are going dim and I been changing my front sight on my Hartford with different blades but I'm really not coming up with a combination that works well in low light on heavy over cast days against a dark back ground like you find on a Buffalo.
Brass and nickel is the only thing I haven't tried yet.

At times while attending the Quigley shoot, I will blow moisture into the muzzle of my rifle. Depends on how long its been since I fired the last shot. Some practice-days, I shoot all day without cleaning the bore.

Whatever works,

Jim
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Kurt I really like it. I will get a picture and post it for you. In fact I need to build two more, one for the 40 and one for the new 50/70 coming.

Thanks

Kurt here's one. I've killed two deer and I think 8 or 9 antelope with this sight. I got my first one from Orville in 2008, been building and using them ever since.

Thanks
