I've never owned a 1911 but would like to one day. Have any of you guys owned a Kimber? The local shop has one.

Carried a Colt 1911 as a LEO. Still have it.
Saved my life with it-
Look hard at a Ruger 1911 or Springfield Armory.

Yeah. The local shop seems to always have a decent selection. Right now they have at least one Ruger, some STI's, and a Kimber.

RE: 1911 .45acp
I think the 1911 is one of the finest pistols made. I had a .38 gold cup I sold at a weaker moment to a guy that really thought he wanted it. It had a 3 digit serial number and it shot well, but I did not like the chamber they have so I'm not a collector so it went down the road. and replace it with a .38 sp. 52 Master S&W. The Smith shoots better anyway.
I also have a .45 gold cup that is a tack driver for the 50 yard bulls eye. For the .22 portion of the bulls eye portion I used the 41 S&W and the The Victor.
But the 1911 is one fine piece you can drag through the mud and it will still function. And it is a stopper.
Recently at the range a guy pulled out a short barreled black gun and started shooting. One of the empty cases bounced off my rifle and I felt like giving him a horizontal butstroke for shooting that close to me and spraying me with hot brass till I looked at the case and it was a .45 ACP coming out of that AR. I had to get up and asked him if I could look at that rifle and politely asking him to shoot on my right side where there was a open bench.
He let me shoot 5 rounds and I must say that was a fine shooting with that space age red dot sight he had on it.

I might as well throw my 2 cents worth in here. I agree with the 1911 being a very fine handgun. I have one that I purchases new about 36 years ago, still fairly stock in that I have only changed the trigger, sights and main spring housing. The other is a custom job, sights, barrel, trigger and a few other parts. The test target the smith sent back with is is a 25 yard, 5 shot ragged hole.
The Smith 52 is something I have always wanted to try and perhaps own but I think that is one of the few handguns I have never run across on the used shelf of a gun shop.
Kurt, what flavor of 41 do you have? I have one with the 7 3/8" models with the factory muzzle break. Not something I plan on parting with. That one is just too nice and shoots too well to let go. I think around here some place might be the original box and factory grips.

Sam.

My 41 or used to be mine. I gave it to my Son 5 years ago for his Birthday, it is the same as your 41 Sam. It is an early model.
When I boxed it up it was a tough choice between the "The Victor" High Standard or the 41 Smith. If it would have been just the High Standard Victor I think he might have got it. Smile The 52 I will not part with. It won me a lot of dust collectors.

Still have the 5 1/2" bbl'd, 41 I bought in 1978. The only 22 auto I like better. Is my Browning Medalist, that was given to me from my folks when I graduated high school in 1969.
