RE: A Shooter
Well here is my 2 cts worth. I don't spend big money on fancy targets. One time I down loaded some free off'n the internet and run them thru a copier, not real cheap either but they have a real SHARP defined edge to them and a hell of a lot easier to see well than those fuzzy edged ones YOU are using. Try comparing a fuzzy one and a clean edged one side by side at distance and see which one treats you better. bobw

I would bet the bulk 55gn fmj are made to mil spec , and they seem to be doing quite well for that.
you might try weighing them into lots and see if that helps ,

RE: A Shooter
By any chance do any of you fine folks have an accurate load for a 62 gr FMJBt bullet with Accurate 2520 powder? I have printed out the Accurate loading chart and I was thinking of using 25gr as a starting point with mil cases.
TIA

RE: A Shooter
This rifle has been extremely hard to clean. Takes forever to get a clean patch. Over the last 3 days I've cleaned it off & on till finally a clean patch.

Bore scoped the barrel today. My Smith said it was about as clean as they get. The throat looked fine but the bore is a mess. I followed one land its whole length & there was a place that looked like a crater was made by an F16. The grooves have many pits also. The crown wasn't cut square with the bore either. It's amazing what a bore scope shows.

The rifle was purchased used from a friend who never fired it. He purchased the rifle from a gun show best I remember. Any way it will need a barrel but not till I shoot a bunch of these cheap bullets I have on hand.

This is five, 5 shot 100 yard groups from today. I fired a total of 65 rounds without cleaning & the barrel was really fouled. The first shot from a cold barrel is most always a little high. The bullets are from many pounds of pulled bullets I purchased which came from an ammo plant going out of business. The soft noses are all deformed. The powder is 25 grains of pull down WC 844 from Talon lit with a Wolf SRM primer. I call these junk loads [meaning cheap] which I shoot for off hand practice.

RE: A Shooter
Creeker, that is a real shame that someone didn't take better care of that barrel. Remingotns do have a reputation of shooting very well with factory barrels. I just wish that in the past I had kept better records of some of my load data, as I once shot a 5 shot group with an ar that I had that you could cover with a dime. If I remember correctly it had a 9 twist button rifled barrel and didn't have a floated barrel. Standard issue configuration. I had a stupid moment and a friend of mine is not the owner of that rifle. I have since them put another one together with a 8.5 twist broached SS barrel. It has been shot very little but with Fed match ammo and iron sights it will do about 2" at 100. One of these days I will bet a scope on it and see what it will really do.

Creeker;

What opinion do you have for the Wolf primers? Have you used them in your black powder rifles also?

Sam;

I don't have a .223 but I use 2520 and 2230 in my .222 700 ADL. I have a 1/14 ROT in mine so I'm restricted to the lighter bullets but a 50 gr Hornady SX with 22 gr of 2520 will splatter horse fly's all over the 200 yard target backer Tongue
