.44-77 PP bullets.

Don't know if he's still making them or not, but Bryan Youngberg was building ammo boxes out of cherry or walnut, that would hold more ammo than old men have any business trying to carry when full. LOL

Bryan's ammo boxes are excellent. I picked up a 200 rounder last time I was through Big Timber.

Jim.
just one word of advice, if you make more than one box beside to mark the caliber on it.
I took the .50-90 to the range this morning with a box of .44-100 rounds Undecided

I will be sure to engrave the cartridge on the top of the box.

Well at least they would chamber, though probably not fire! I've heard of a number of shooters who have done that or they brought the correct ammo but the wrong rifle. In some cases they had traveled a long distance to a match and then discovered their error!
I've never done either, but I have loaded ammo for a match only to realize when I was done that I had the wrong powder charge! Huh
I did that for the Mother's Day match at Lodi in 2009. I meant to load 87 grains of 1 1/2 Swiss but misread the scale when I set up and loaded 92 grains in my .45-90. It worked out ok though, that was my first win at Lodi and how I won the Badger barrel for my Hepburn. It took several years to build the Hepburn but that was where it started. Big Grin

It's best if the ammo fits the rifle though or it would be much harder to win! Confused

Well I used to laugh when someone did it. I guess now is the time I laugh at myself Smile

I have a bunch of .50's that have been loaded since 07 and 08 I want to empty the cases and clean them up again. I tried to dig the powder out but it's like a rock so it's trigger time again with the .50.

Jim,I know its getting close to getting your 44/77 so I was wondering if when you get it if you would post the bore/groove dimensions for that barrel as I would have another 44 project I would do and I know GM does not have a decent barrel. I Have 3 GM barrels on rifles and one Badger and the Badger is the only one that is the correct dimension.
Kurt, my 50/90 had .400 freebore so I took it down to Lee Shaver because he had the reamer I liked, just got it back and loaded up some new loads and took it to the range and first shot at 100 was in the X ,so moved it out to 300 And second group was 4 inch vertical by 3 inch horizontal for 10 shots, so Im Happy. But have to take the old ammo apart because its too fat to chamber. Bummer! 670 grain PP.

Bill,

I will do that. It will be 10 months next week since Shiloh received my action and barrel and last I heard was over two weeks ago that is was in the bluing line and it shouldn't be long. So it could happen any day now, but it has been a long arduous journey thus far. Now I hear FedEx and UPS are having trouble making deliveries and are having long delays! So I half expect it to get lost or be shipped to the wrong place! I won't be happy until it's in MY hands and only then can I breath a sign of relief.

If I had know a year ago how this was going to go I think I would have just kept the rifle as a .45-70 collecting dust in the back of the safe! After all this I hope it at least shoots decent!

Bill,

Just pull the bullet and don't dig the powder out all you end up is mostly dust and that is only good for firecrackers.
If you have a taper crimp run them through and see if they chamber. If not remove the depriving stem from the FL sizing die and give that a try.
I had to do this before going from a factory chamber to a tight.

Bill where do you shoot? Effingham?

RE: .44-77 PP bullets.
It's a bit rough yet but it's going to work just fine. With some wood putty, some sanding and a bunch of stain it will look fine and work well. It will need some hardware too but up to now I have nothing but my time invested in it.

It's 8 1/4 x 9 1/4 x 5 outside and holds 100 .44-77 cartridges with long paper patch bullets sticking up.
The MTM ones I bought would have to be bullet down.
