Accurate Yardages
When you go to a gong match, how accurate do you expect the posted yardages to be? Spot on or about?

RE: Accurate Yardages
Mostly, about, I guess. I try to get enough shots on target to make me ready, no matter the posted distance. At the ranges I visit, even the recorded sight-settings from previous years can be different by a couple of min. or more Blush .

About. So long as about is within 30 or so yards one way or the other. I was at a shoot where the about was so poor the first shots could not be seen in the scope, made for alot of wasted shots trying to get a proper sight setting.

RE: Accurate Yardages
I like for them to be as close as possible, realizing that 10-15 yds one way or the other won't make alot of difference.

RE: Accurate Yardages
Thanks for your input, fellows. Last year our target ranges at the Badlands shoot were posted as close as we could get them with a measuring wheel. This year, they are set by GPS. Our about was not too bad but it is better now.

Leica Vector IV's, lazer rangefinding binos', nicest optics I ever have used and accurate. Only cost ~$3000 or so. Yeah as much as a new Shiloh but really serious glass. bobw

Google Earth....is right on the money!! You'll have to allow for upgrade or downgrade shooting!

My Garmin eTrex GPS gives me an accuracy of 8' outside in the clear no matter what the distance is. Smile

RE: Accurate Yardages
I have never been to a match but my yardages at my home range are spot on, within .01 of a foot, I am a retired Registered Land Surveyor, lol
