RE: It just won't quit!!!!!
Tgc,
Good to hear from you. I also shoot a 45-70 with the BACO 455545e bullet. I talked with Arnie after not having the desired results with straight-sided PP bullets and I sent him some fired cases. He then recommended the bullet I’m now using. I’m finally getting around to using it this season. So far my best 200 yard groups are printing 1.5 MOA or less with 65 grains of OE 1.5. I have ladder loads ready up to 80 grains to test but the weather has not been cooperating. I’m shooting a roller with a 16 ROT Green Mountain barrel. My last 40 rounds were patched with Seth Cole white 55W paper but they were not as tight in the bore as I like, i.e. no thumb pressure needed to chamber them. I seated my current untested loads .2 deep in the WW cases with slightly thicker onion skin paper so we’ll see how that works.

Bear,
Well you know paper, it's a bit hard to get consistent measurements on. I'd call it about .0015".
The better way to judge paper is not so much by the thickness but by how much it adds to the diameter of a bullet when wrapped twice around. My 9# onionskin adds about .007" while the Staedtler tracing paper I have adds about .005".
This is one of the reasons I like sizing my patched bullets. I have push through sizing dies for each of my rifles. I polish them out to get a perfect fit in the bore of each rifle. Then almost any paper can be used as long as it adds enough to the bullet diameter so it can be sized down to the perfect fit. I like to feel some resistance as I chamber the round, but not too much. For me that kind of fit results in the best accuracy. Just snug is good.

Re. Paper Thickness measurement.
Jim is right in suggesting to measure the actual add on diameter of the wrapped bullets.
Generally in the paper industry I left. We measured paper thickness with a
dial gauge that has 1/2" diameter pads on the anvil and shaft and a consistent
Standard spring pressure.
I believe, tho a person can get a decent measurement by developing a
consistent "clamping" of a machinist mike using the 'clicker" and
measuring 4 layers of paper in a number of areas. Depends a lot on
the degree of uniformity of the formation of the fibers in the paper

Tim,
I think you must’ve sent it over to us. It looks about like that here again too.
Before I enlarged the picture, I thought it was a bear wondering why he got up so early!

18" in the past 4 days. Snowing now and there's a 90% chance for Saturday! I've been wanting to put up a new target frame at 300 yds. Not sure where the dirt is on the hill.... (Yes, those are color photos!!)
